After dropping out of college, Gabrielle Chapman knew that she wanted to work around music. She ended up taking a job at Time, a bar famous for it’s open mic nights and house band “The Living Sample”, a group of some of Philly’s most talented instrumentalists. Whether she knew it at the time or not, this job would prove to be the perfect entry point to break into the Philly music scene. After meeting guitarist/producer Robert Reynolds, the two began using the connections Gabrielle made at Time to create one of the fiercest live acts in the city.
Gabrielle Chapman and The Vortex have been establishing themselves as one of the Philadelphia music scene’s heavy hitters with only a couple of singles and a live act that brings serious vocal performances and grooves. Their sound combines jazz, funk, pop, soul and electronic music but packages it as one delightfully infectious dance floor ready tune after the another.
Vocalist Gabrielle Chapman and guitarist/producer Rob Reynolds exist at the core of the group handling songwriting and production. The duo met after Rob (ex Blendmode) messaged Gabrielle on Instagram saying that the two should get together and make music. Rob sent over an instrumental which Gabrielle wrote to eventually culminating into the first single “Alone”. The two have been writing music and playing shows ever since and have been able to incorporate some of Philly’s finest musicians in their full band live set as well. Their most recent single "Boundaries" was mixed and mastered by Jarrett Landry at Voltage Grove Studios in Philadelphia. NoSpace Productions is extremely excited to be hosting Gabrielle Chapman and The Vortex’s release of “Boundaries” at Bourbon and Branch this Friday February 7th where you can watch this vocal powerhouse light the stage on fire after performances from Armani Lee, Al Zamora, and Rubber.
